PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro yesterday celebrated the signing of a cross-border energy deal by dancing, wining and even being in a conga line with women dressed in bright, colourful clothing at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas. Rowley appeared in his element as he danced and wined to the beat of spicy music as members of the TT entourage, which accompanied him to the one-day visit to Venezuela, looked on and laughed. Six killed in highway crash

SIX people died last night on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near O'Meara. The crash involved a car and a pick up truck.Three people from each vehicle died. Five people died at the scene. The sixth died while undergoing treatment. Police report that two people survived. Read more…

Killers text Alexis family after slaying uncle: One gone, bye bye

Although there have been several threats made to the Alexis family, relatives said yesterday there would be no reprisals for the murder of Mervyn Alexis, 46, the younger brother of reputed gang leader Selwyn “Robocop” Alexis, 50. Read more…

Dillon: Army base in Enterprise soon

NATIONAL Security Minister Edmund Dillon yesterday disclosed that a forward base for the Army will be established in Enterprise in Central Trinidad.Dillon made this disclosure as he commented on the latest set of murders that took place in TT over the weekend and yesterday. 
Among the persons murdered was a relative of Selwyn “Robocop” Alexis, who was murdered earlier this year. Read more…

Cemex makes takeover bid for TCL

Mexico’s cement giant, Cemex, yesterday announced that it is making a takeover bid for Claxton Bay-based Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL).Cemex, through one of its indirect subsidiaries Sierra Trading, is looking to acquire 132,616,942 shares at a price of $4.50 in cash per TCL share, the Mexican company said in a statement issued in Port-of-Spain, New York and Mexico City yesterday. US$2 million currency bust linked to Trinidad politicians

Local police and customs officers investigating the discovery of US$2 million in cash found in a container at the Point Lisas port in Trinidad believe that the money sent to a local businessman as payment for a shipment of illegal drugs to the British Virgin Islands and may also be linked to local politicians.The businessman in question is allegedly involved in extensive illicit operations in Trinidad including not only the export of drugs to the United States but also money laundering, Newsday reported. The Inter-American Corporation for Infrastructure Financing (CIFI), a leader non-bank financial institution dedicated to run projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, has decided to move its headquarters to Panama City.  UK may only have 18 months to conclude Brexit deal, EU warns

The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier has warned Britain it may only have 18 months to strike an exit deal from the bloc.Speaking in Brussels, Barnier said the process would need to be completed by October 2018 to allow for ratification by the 27 remaining member states within the two-year timescale prescribed by EU rules. News has travelled the world that an organised gang based in Ghana ran a fake embassy selling real US visas for $6,000 (£4,700) for "about a decade".
