VEMCO Limited

VEMCO LIMITED (originally a sole proprietorship) was founded in 1958 by Victor Mouttet and Sally Mouttet, and was the origin of the Victor E. Mouttet Group.

The business began as a commodity trading business, trading in such products as peanuts, beans and prunes. In the 1960s, business began to evolve from trading in commodities to branded food products. The original branded products included S.X Processed Meats fom Canada, Celebrity Canned Meats from Denmark and Kerrygold Dairy Products from Ireland. The company continued to expand its branded food product range until the imposition of the Negative List in the mid 1960s. This adversely affected products the company imported that could be manufactured locally, and by the mid 1970s the only major brand food products that the company retained was the Kerrygold range of dairy products.
