Labour Productivity – your tool to improving competitiveness
6th July, 2011
Dear Valued Member,
TTMA invites you to attend our seminar at TIC 2011 entitled, Labour Productivity—your tool to improving competitiveness on Thursday 16th June 2011 from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency. The seminar will offer practical insights and approaches to creating a culture of shared value between corporate T&T and the often overlooked input of Labour. Our session will offer case studies from manufacturing companies in Trinidad and Tobago; insights from researchers in the field of Corporate Responsibility as well as specific recommendations for tackling absenteeism and an employer's guide to the Workmen's Compensation Act.
Session 1: Corporate Responsibility in T&T – Myth or Reality?
Session One offers case studies as a tool to inform attendees of the experiences of local firms that have made improvements to labour productivity within recent years. We hope that the lessons shared can be used by other businesses locally as we aim to strengthen the Shared Value Approach in T&T as a mechanism for sustainable enterprise development. The intent of Session One is for a very hands-on interaction between our attendees and presenters (researchers, consultants and managers) who are all involved in sustainable corporate responsibility.
Presenters – Dr Sookram and Mr Kistow, Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business; Ms. Melanie Richards, CSR Solutions; Mr Simon Gonzalez Barana Seafood Processors Limited.
Session 2: Emerging Issues in the Workplace: Absenteeism and Workmen’s Compensation
The session will cover two key areas; absenteeism and workmen compensation. This is because businesses are becoming aware of the costly venture of dealing with absenteeism. The major cost is derived from the fact that businesses facing absenteeism have to quickly hire replacement employees and train them. Therefore, remedies are required. The second presenter will offer insights into compensation issues for employees and employers’ responsibilities under the Act. Attending this seminar will allow the participant to get a clear understanding of the Act and the specific obligations of the employer.
Presenters – Mr Gabriel Yeatel, Employers Consultative Association and Mr Clive Peagus, Legal Consultant Ideas to Business Limited
Kindly contact Giselle or Joy at 675-8862 ext 233 or 241 to confirm your attendance. Attendance is free of charge.
