Venezuelans: ‘The homeland is calling us’: Thousands rally to support Maduro

Wife finds vendor knifed to death in Princes Town

A Princes Town man was stabbed to death during an argument early yesterday morning, his body later discovered lying face down on a roadway. The deceased has been identified as Sherwin Balkaran, 40, of Naparima Mayaro Road. Police said around 5:35 a.m. on Sunday, a resident of Railway Road, Princes Town, looked outside and saw a man slumped on the ground in a pool of blood. Darbasie sent on immediate leave

Former PP ministers cautious after PM's statement on Venezuela

FORMER People's Partnership (PP) attorney general Garvin Nicholas has sounded a note of caution on an August 23 statement by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, expressing support for the US naval deployment in the southern Caribbean Sea outside of Venezuela's territorial waters.In a Facebook post, Nicholas said, "I am absolutely unambiguously in support of eliminating crime and making Trinidad and Tobago the safest country in the world to live. Browne: Government has three different positions on Venezuela

T&T faces fallout Regional analysts warn PM that support for US in Venezuela impasse could open country up to aggression

International relations experts say Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s decision to back any impending United States action against Venezuela could have dire consequences for this country, including making T&T a target in any conflict.  “We could be a target here,” warned retired director at the Institute of International Relations, Dr Anthony Gonzales, who said while he welcomes the US effort to intercept drug cartels in the Caribbean, he was concerned about the Prime Minister’s offer to give access to American forces, if necessary, to defend Guyanese territory in the event of an attack by the Nicolas Maduro regime. “I have no difficulty supporting Guyana in any conflict with Venezuela, but do we have to get involved and offer a base?
