San Fernando launches first phase of Harris Promenade beautification project
SAN FERNANDO celebrated a major milestone on June 7 with the official opening of the new Fruit Court and Leather Craft Vending Area, the first phase of the Harris Promenade Beautification Project. In a statement, the office of San Fernando Mayor Robert Parris said the project marks the start of a bold and forward-looking transformation of the city’s well-known public space. “With a focus on heritage, safety, and family-centered development, the project sets the foundation for San Fernando’s broader commitment to becoming a child-friendly city,” the statement said. Couple killed in Arima road accident; youngest child injured
An Arima couple was killed in a road accident yesterday morning. The victims were identified as David Matthew Harroo, 42 and his wife Jennifer Ramoutarsingh, 34. One of the couple’s six children, who was in the vehicle at the time, was critically injured. The couple lived at Arima Old Road, Arima. Police said the fatal accident occurred in the vicinity of Double Bridge along Eastern Main Road, Arima, around 10 am. Read more here

Padarath: PM takes bold stand on Venezuela: ‘We will not be bullied!’
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Barry Padarath, has praised the Prime Minister for what he described as a strong, bold, and courageous stance in the face of mounting tensions with the Venezuelan government. “For ten years, the PNM pussyfooted around the President of Venezuela and the issues that surrounded Venezuela as they related to the hydrocarbon sector and the relationship that TT has with Venezuela, but also the relationship one of our major trading partners, the US, has with Venezuela,” Padarath said. “That is why I can say with certainty that all 26 members on the UNC bench and the two members with the TPP (Tobago People’s Party) throw our full support behind the Honourable Prime Minister.” Read more here

Moonilal calls on Shell to boost Manatee gas output
AMID the ongoing “gas crisis” facing the country, Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal says the Government will be working closely with Shell in the coming months to explore opportunities to increase the volumes of gas that the Manatee project can deliver to the Trinidad and Tobago economy. “Given the gas crisis we inherited, in the coming months we will be working with Shell to see if there are opportunities to increase the volumes of gas Manatee can bring to the Trinidad and Tobago economy,” Moonilal stated. Trump travel ban barring citizens from 12 countries takes effect
President Donald Trump's sweeping new travel ban which bars citizens of 12 countries from entering the United States came into effect at 00:00 ET (05:00 BST) on Monday. The order, which Trump signed last week, restricts the nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the US. Nationals from a further seven countries - Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela - will face partial travel restrictions. The US president said the list could be revised if "material improvements" were made, while other countries could be added as "threats emerge around the world". Read more here
